Our Mission and Commitment

At Caroline Legion Branch 177, we are dedicated to serving our community and honoring the sacrifices made by our veterans, RCMP and 1st Responders. Located in the heart of Caroline, Alberta, our branch is a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, an organization that has been supporting veterans and their families for decades. Our mission is to ensure that the legacy of those who served our country is remembered and celebrated, while also providing a supportive environment for our local community.

Services Offered

We offer a variety of services aimed at fostering community spirit and providing support to our veterans. From hosting memorial events, the Poppy Fund Drive, Remembrance Day Poster and Literary, and community gatherings; to providing resources and assistance for veterans, RCMP, First Responders, and their families. Branch 177 is at the forefront of community engagement. Our facilities are available for rental for various events, including weddings, funerals, meetings, and social gatherings, making us a versatile venue for all occasions.

Our Legion Executive Members

Steve Proudler

President

Steve Proudler is a dedicated community leader with over 30 years of military experience in managing local veterans' services. His commitment to supporting our members and organizing community events ensures that every voice is heard and valued.

Darlene Howe-Houlton

Treasurer

Darlene has been active in many rolls at the legion not only as our current Treasurer, but also as a past Secretary and also President. She keeps our Poppy Campaign going year after year as well as one of our chief cooks and bottle washers.

Rita Clements

Secretary

Rita not only is our 2025 Secretary but she is also the Chief Cook for our local Meals on Wheels.

Donna Kanton

Donna is our Past Secretary and also our bartender.

Phil Penne

Sergeant-at-Arms

Phil came to us back in 2021 from the US American Legion Post 109 in Arbutus, Maryland. He started out as just our piper and became our 2024 Service Officer and is now our 2025 Sgt-at-Arms and still our only piper.

Membership Chair

Dianne is holding up our membership board keeping track of and recruiting members.

Robert Hewett

Past President

Robert has been with us for a good long time and was our past President in 2023. He recently retired from our Maintenance team.

Our Services

Fundraising Initiatives

We organize various fundraising activities like the Poppy Drive to support our Veteran programs and services. Your participation helps us continue our mission and give back to those who have served our country that are in need.

Social Gatherings

Join us for regular Friday Suppers, including horse races, meat draws, and 50/50, to strengthen connections within our community. Everyone is welcome to share in the camaraderie and fun.

Historical Exhibits

Explore our own Servicemen's Museum exhibits that showcase the rich local military history and contributions of the Royal Canadian Legion and its members. We aim to educate and inspire visitors about our legacy and values.

What can I do with my old worn out Flags?

Bring them into the Legion and deposit them in our Flag Box. We will designate a time to hold a specific Ceremony just for our National Flags. Flags that are accepted: Canada "Maple Leaf", USA "Old Glory", Provincial, and US States. They deserve to be Honored not just tossed in the trash.


Mother's Day

Join us for Mother's Day by taking her out to eat with a lot of friends. We will be Serving Roast Beef, and afterwards, dance to sounds of The JeskeBand.
