Caroline Legion Branch 177 was established on 23 February 1946, making this upcoming year our 80th anniversary. Our Legion is where we honour the brave men and women who have served our country &amp; community. Join us in our mission to support veterans, RCMP, &amp; first responders while fostering community spirit and creating lasting connections. Together, we can celebrate these heroes and aim to strengthen our community.

<h3>Our Mission and Commitment</h3>At Caroline Legion Branch #177, we are dedicated to serving our community and honouring the sacrifices made by our veterans, RCMP and 1st Responders. Located in the heart of Caroline, Alberta, our branch is a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, an organization that has been supporting veterans and their families for decades. Our mission is to ensure that the legacy of those who served our country is remembered and celebrated, while also providing a supportive environment for our local community.<h3>Services Offered</h3>We offer a variety of services aimed at fostering community spirit and providing support to our veterans. From hosting memorial events, the Poppy Fund Drive, Remembrance Day Poster and Literary, and community gatherings, to providing resources and assistance for veterans, RCMP, First Responders, and their families. Branch #177 is at the forefront of community engagement. Our facilities are available for rental for various events, including weddings, funerals, meetings, and social gatherings, making us a versatile venue for all occasions.<h3>Join Us in Making a Difference</h3>As a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, we pride ourselves on our strong sense of camaraderie and community involvement. <h3>PLUS&nbsp;80 years for Caroline Branch #177</h3><h3>!!!ATTENTION!!!</h3>We are looking forward to 100 yrs. of the establishment of the Royal Canadian Legion in 2026.&nbsp; The Royal Canadian Legion made its beginning on July 17, 1926, under Queen Elizabeth II. Keep an eye on our website for more information on this momentous occasion.Caroline Legion too had a momentous occasion.&nbsp; Just 20 years later, in 1946, we were established, making this our 80th year. Steve Proudler is a dedicated community leader with over 30 years of military experience in managing local veterans' services. His commitment to supporting our members and organizing community events ensures that every voice is heard and valued. 2026 will be his 2nd year as President

Darlene has been active in many roles at the legion, not only as our current Treasurer, but also as a past President and Secretary. She keeps our Poppy Campaign going year after year, as well as being one of our chief cooks and bottle washers. In 2026, we will see her as our Treasurer again.

Our new 2026 Secretary is Leona Durocher. She is not only our new Secretary, but she is also a new member to us. What a welcome aboard!

Our Legion Executive Members

Our branch provides support services and resources for veterans and their families, helping them navigate challenges and access benefits. We are committed to honoring their service and sacrifice.

Veteran Support

We offer programs and scholarships aimed at youth to foster leadership and community involvement. Our initiatives encourage the next generation to engage with their community and understand the importance of remembrance.

Youth Programs

We organize and host a variety of events to bring the community together, from social gatherings to memorials. Join us for fun, fellowship, and remembrance throughout the year.

Community Events

We organize various fundraising activities like the Poppy Drive to support our Veteran programs and services. Your participation helps us continue our mission and give back to those who have served our country that are in need.

Fundraising Initiatives

Join us for our regular Friday Suppers starting at 5:30 PM, featuring wholesome good food, meat draws, the Nevada, and 50/50 raffles, to strengthen connections within our community. For Special Occasions, we even bring in a band to tap your feet to or get up and Dance!!! Everyone is welcome to share in the camaraderie and fun.

Social Gatherings

Explore our own Servicemen's Museum exhibits that showcase the rich local military history and contributions of the Royal Canadian Legion and its members. We aim to educate and inspire visitors about our legacy and values.

We are looking into events for the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Legion in 2026.

We will always hold these men and women dear to our hearts for the ultimate sacrifice they have made.

It is once again time for us to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  Give to the Poppy Fund.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of our Life Member William George (Bill) Evans. Bill passed away Monday, November 3rd, 2025 @ the age of 104. He became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in 1983. A Memorial service will be held on 11 April, 2026.Born March 22nd, 1921, in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. He was the Eldest of 5 boys. At the age of 20, Bill joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 30, 1941.See more below

Bill met the love of his life, Miss Catherine "Bunty" Leitch, while stationed in Calgary at #3 Service Flying Centre, while learning his trade working on twin-engine aircraft. They were married just before he departed for England in 1943. Together, they moved 7 times over the span of 70 years, ending up on a farm outside of Caroline, AB, in 2004 at the age of 83. Bill and Bunty had 2 daughters, Patricia in 1946 and Glenna in 1949. Resulting in 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.Bill wanted to be a salesman, so he started out working for Gutta Percha Rubber Ltd. and ended up as the Western Canada Sales Manager for Uniroyal Rubber Co. Bill joined the Associated Canadian Travelers (ACT) in 1952, eventually being elected the Dominion President from 1969 - 1971.A celebration of Bill's life will be held for him at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #177 here in Caroline on 11 April 2026.Please watch this page for more information about Bill and his contributions to life.
